We're seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Information Governance Officer (Data Protection) π to join our Legal and Civic Services Department on a temporary basis. This crucial role ensures full compliance with data protection legislation, including the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) π. - PAYE: Β£23.37 per hour
π Location: Donegall Square, Belfast, BT1 5GS, United Kingdom
π’ Work Pattern: Initial training in-office, followed by a hybrid model (3 days in office, 2 days remote)
π Responsibilities
As the Senior Information Governance Officer, your key duties will include:
- βοΈ Coordinating compliance with data protection laws and related projects.
- π Managing and responding to Subject Access Requests (SARs) efficiently.
- π‘ Providing expert advice to directors and council officers on data protection compliance and best practices.
- π οΈ Developing, reviewing, and updating policies, procedures, and guidance on data protection.
- π Designing and delivering training programs for council staff and elected members on data protection responsibilities.
- π Assisting with the council's Data Protection Registration with the Information Commissionerβs Office.
- π Investigating data breaches and recommending solutions to minimise risk.
- β Conducting data protection compliance audits and preparing reports for senior management.
- π Advising on data sharing, privacy notices, and data controller/processor arrangements.
- π€ Liaising with the Information Commissionerβs Office and representing the organisation at local/regional forums.
- πΉ Developing and implementing a corporate CCTV policy and action plans.
- π€΅ Deputising for the Records Manager when required.
π Qualifications
To succeed, you must meet the following criteria:

Education and Work Experience:
- π A third-level qualification in a relevant subject (or equivalent) AND at least 1 year of relevant work experience in the following:
- Providing expert advice on data protection compliance and best practices.
- Designing and delivering training on data protection responsibilities.
- Developing, reviewing, and updating corporate policies & guidance on data protection.
OR
- π 2 years of relevant experience in the absence of a formal qualification in the areas outlined above.
- π A third-level qualification in a relevant subject (or equivalent) AND at least 1 year of relevant work experience in the following:

ποΈ Day-to-Day Duties
In this role, you will:
- π Respond to Subject Access Requests (SARs) and provide expert advice on complex data protection queries.
- π« Deliver insightful training sessions to staff and elected members on data protection compliance best practices.
- π Conduct data protection audits and prepare compliance reports.
- ποΈ Draft and update internal and public-facing policies, procedures, and guidance documents.
- β Investigate data breaches, assessing risks and recommending corrective actions.
- ποΈ Liaise with external regulators and represent the organisation at governance forums.
- π Assist in developing privacy notices, data-sharing agreements, and corporate CCTV-related policies.
