Hours: Full-time 9am-5pm

🎯 Role objective

As Business Support Officer (Funding), you will assist with the monitoring, evaluation and verification of externally funded projects. You will help ensure grants are managed properly, records are accurate, financial procedures are followed, and funder requirements are met.

You will also support managers with funding administration, budget monitoring, procurement, reporting, risk management and audit preparation.

📝 Key responsibilities

  • Monitor funded projects to ensure grant conditions and procedures are followed.
  • Support the administration and financial management of external funding.
  • Assist with letters of offer, financial agreements, service level agreements and funding documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records, databases and monitoring information.
  • Support budget monitoring, variance reporting and year-end forecasting.
  • Assist with revenue and capital estimates.
  • Check grant income and expenditure against financial procedures and deadlines.
  • Support purchasing, payments, quotations, tenders and inventory records linked to grant spend.
  • Help verify third-party grant and funding agreements.
  • Attend audit and verification visits when required.
  • Provide financial and administrative support for funding bids.
  • Assist with risk registers, compliance records and action plans.
  • Review and improve admin systems, processes and working practices.
  • Provide advice to officers and managers on finance, procurement, performance and administration.
  • Supervise and prioritise workloads for business support staff where required.

✅ Essential criteria

Applicants must have either:

  • A third level qualification in Finance, Business Studies, Accountancy or a relevant subject, plus at least 1 year’s relevant experience.

Or:

  • At least 2 years’ relevant experience in the required areas.

Relevant experience should include:

  • Budget monitoring, revenue estimates, accounts receivable and accounts payable.
  • Grant administration, monitoring, evaluation, compliance and reporting.
  • Supervising or managing business support staff, including workload planning.

💻 Skills required

The successful Business Support Officer (Funding) should be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of financial controls and accounting systems.
  • Experience preparing reports, letters, memos and financial information.
  • Strong IT skills, including databases, spreadsheets and relevant software.
  • Ability to review and improve systems and processes.
  • Strong organisation and workload planning skills.
  • Good analytical and decision-making ability.
  • Experience working with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of customer care, equality, health and safety and safeguarding requirements.
  • Ability to work professionally in a public sector or funded project environment.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • A relevant third level qualification and at least 2 years’ experience in the key areas listed above.

Or:

  • At least 3 years’ relevant experience in the key areas listed above.
