Hours: 37 hours per week (flexible working pattern to meet service needs)
Pay Rate: £14.35 per hour

We're recruiting an Assistant Community Development Officer (Social Care Qualified) to join Belfast City Council's Community Services team on a 12-week temporary assignment. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that improve community wellbeing, promote inclusion, and support local groups across Belfast.

 

What You'll Be Doing

Working alongside the Community Development Officer, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality community development initiatives by:

  • Supporting the planning, organisation and delivery of community development programmes and activities.
  • Working closely with community groups, volunteers and local organisations to build capacity and strengthen local communities.
  • Recruiting, training, coordinating and supporting volunteers.
  • Assisting with community events, festivals, seasonal programmes and play schemes.
  • Providing administrative support, preparing reports and maintaining accurate records.
  • Supporting community groups to identify funding opportunities and assisting with funding applications and reporting.
  • Building strong partnerships with statutory, voluntary and community organisations.
  • Promoting equality, good relations, safeguarding and best practice across all aspects of service delivery.
  • Helping to ensure community centres provide welcoming, safe and inclusive environments.

 

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who brings enthusiasm, initiative and a genuine commitment to community development.

You'll ideally have:

  • At least one year's experience organising and delivering community development programmes.
  • At least one year's experience supporting and supervising volunteers.
  • A recognised Social Care or Community Work qualification (or equivalent).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and administrative abilities.
  • Good IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office and standard office systems.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to meeting the needs of the service.

 

Candidates with additional experience and relevant qualifications in Youth & Community Work, Playwork or Community Development may be shortlisted.
